The Condor, the Crystal and Academic Art

Inspired by a dream: a huge condor of  glass, about six meters high, got  in with  violence in a workshop of the Academy of Fine Arts in La Paz.

The Andean Condor (Vultur Gryphus). This magnificent animal needs no further introduction, but it is important to be aware that this species is near threatened because human persecution against it continues.

According Arkive.org, the Andean condor is killed for sport, also often farmers kill them because they mistakenly believe that they killing their livestock. In addition, the condors have been affected by pesticides and other poisons acquired through ingestion of prey, through the food chain. A curious fact is that condors are partners for life, and the loss of a member of the tandem has a great impact on the surviving individual. In Bolivia it is not uncommon to see nowadays condor feathers used in folk dance costumes.
